Professor Barbara Mitchell is a Senior Global Executive and award-nominated educator with over 30 years of experience designing and leading global transformation initiatives that drive measurable business outcomes — supporting leaders from the classroom to the boardroom.
Barbara works with organizations to design and lead transformation initiatives that accelerate leader effectiveness and organizational performance — driving measurable business outcomes across strategy, talent, and execution. With a proven track record of partnering with executive teams to enhance competitive advantage through strategic planning and global business solutions, Barbara brings extensive experience designing and delivering highly engaging professional, management, and leadership development programs for all levels. She is recognized for creating innovative learning and development solutions and for serving as a trusted team and executive coach.
Having led global teams, Professor Mitchell has extensive experience building high-performing, global organizations that improve productivity and realize financial, strategic, and operational value. She has a highly successful track record of growing new markets and businesses, bringing a unique combination of leadership, continuous process improvement, lean sigma, and financial skills to every engagement.
Recognized as a Master Teacher at Northeastern University, Barbara is a founding faculty member of the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership program, teaching courses including Leadership Strategy, Design, and Practice; Driving Organizational Success through Leadership Development; and Advanced Organizational Behavior at the doctoral level, among others. She is also the creator of Emerging Technologies in Organizational Leadership, a doctoral-level course integrating AI, digital transformation, and leadership strategy. She holds multiple AI certifications and actively integrates GenAI tools into her facilitation, coaching, and curriculum design work. Her current research focuses on Leadership in the Age of AI.
Barbara currently serves as Faculty Lead for the Business & Leadership Institute at Boston College, a highly selective program she redesigned from the ground up — transforming it into a cohesive, high-impact learning experience now operating at full capacity with approximately 1 in 4 applicants accepted. She leads the faculty team and oversees hiring, onboarding, and development, ensuring consistency and excellence across the program.
Barbara also serves as a Faculty Advisor for Harvard Business School Publishing (Simulations & eLearning) and has been a Learning Elite Judge for Chief Learning Officer Magazine for over a decade. She has spoken at conferences on simulations and immersive learning for the 21st Century Learner.
Barbara holds an EdD from Northeastern University, an MBA in Finance and a BBA in Accounting from George Washington University.
